Though six MLB teams wanted to recruit Joe Namath after high school he ended up at the University of Alabama where he led the team to a 29-4 record over three seasons. After his time at Alabama Namath signed with the New York Jets in 1964. Namath was the front man of the fledgling AFL proving that the relatively new league was composed of competition just as tough (if not tougher) than the well-established NFL. Namath's most famous performance came during Super Bowl III when he and the Jets defeated the then Baltimore Colts who were widely considered to be the greatest NFL team of the time.
